Florida runs the cheapest sticker prices in the country and the most creative checkouts. Both things are true, so here's how to read them.
The 4-hour BDI courses we track start at genuinely five dollars: 5DollarTrafficSchool at $5, Aceable currently at $5.94 against a $34.95 list, Improv at $23.95. Florida's market is a price war and drivers are the winners, mostly. The asterisk is the fee stack. Some low-headline schools add processing fees, certificate fees or "state fees" at checkout, so a $4.94 banner can leave the register at $30. The number that matters is the final total on the payment screen, and that's the number we compare schools on.
The course is also not the whole cost, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. You still pay the civil penalty on the ticket. What the election buys you is everything else: elect BDI with the clerk inside your 30-day window, finish the course, and adjudication is withheld, no points are assessed, and Florida law bars your insurer from raising your rate over that infraction. The fine you were always paying. The four-figure insurance exposure, roughly $3,966 over three years on a $204 ticket in our data as a ceiling estimate, is what the $5 course deletes.
Two pieces of follow-through. The election happens before you pay or plead, with the clerk of the county that issued the ticket, and missing the 30 days kills the option entirely. And once you finish, your school is required by law to e-file your certificate with the clerk within 5 days. That filing is included; paying extra for "rush certificate delivery" on a 4-hour online course is almost never necessary. Check the county's records portal that it landed and you're done.
