Yes, with the clearest eyes in the series about what you're buying.
New Jersey's ticket math is brutal by design: a $96 fine attached to roughly $4,869 of three-year insurance exposure at ceiling, the widest fine-to-consequence gap we track, and no course anywhere can dismiss the ticket or hide the conviction. Anyone selling New Jersey defensive driving as a shield against that exposure is selling something the state doesn't offer.
What the state does offer is the best hedge in the country. The mandated insurance reduction, at least 5% and up to 10% for three years, applies against premiums that are among the nation's highest, which means even the 5% floor typically returns the sub-$30 course price several times over across the cycle, and the 10% version does far better. Claimable once every three years, forever, ticket or no ticket. Add the 2-point reduction when you're actually carrying points, once every five years, and the course is a permanently sensible purchase that happens to also be the only lever New Jersey hands its drivers.
So the verdict splits by expectation. As a premium hedge and point-manager, yes, and the clean-record driver who cycles it every three years is playing New Jersey correctly. As protection from what a fresh ticket will do to your rates, no such product exists here, and knowing that is worth as much as the course.
The paperwork routing that makes both benefits real is on our points page; MVC-approved courses are compared on the New Jersey page.
