Eight hours, fixed by Virginia's clinic standard, whichever school delivers it and whichever of the four enrollment doors you came through. Court-ordered, DMV-ordered, insurance, voluntary: same clinic, same clock.
Virginia sweetens a long course two ways. The fee for the 8 hours is capped at $100 by law, with online clinics actually running $39 to $75, so the per-hour cost is among the lowest anywhere. And the prize scale matches the time: up to 5 safe driving points from a voluntary attendance is the most generous credit-per-course in the country, so Virginia is asking for a full workday and paying like it.
The hours come with one enrollment decision that outlasts them, choose safe driving points or the insurance discount before you start, and one hard deadline for the involuntary crowd: DMV-ordered attendees have 90 days from the order to finish their 8 hours or face suspension, which is ample and still routinely missed. Online progress saves for everyone eligible to be online, which excludes drivers under 20 and CDL holders, whose 8 hours happen in a classroom.
Every DMV-approved online clinic we track is compared on the Virginia page, and the four doors are decoded on our points page.
