Yes. New Jersey's standard defensive driving course, the 6-hour one behind the 2-point reduction and the mandated insurance discount, is MVC-approved for online delivery, and online is how most New Jerseyans take it.
The format confusion in New Jersey comes from there being two programs wearing similar names. The one you choose, the defensive driving course, is fully online-friendly. The one you don't, the Driver Improvement Program with its 3-point reduction, is classroom-only, and it's not a menu item anyway: the MVC initiates it for drivers at 12 to 14 points. If a website is selling you an online 3-point New Jersey course, it's selling something that doesn't exist.
Format changes nothing about the machinery: online completion still routes provider-to-MVC for the point credit, in 7 to 10 business days, with the MVC refusing driver-submitted certificates, and you still send your certificate to your insurer yourself for the discount. Commercial and out-of-state licenses stay excluded either way.
Every MVC-approved online course we track is compared on the New Jersey page, the two benefit clocks are on our frequency page, and the sub-$30 math is on our cost page.
