Yes, with the cleanest carve-out in the country: everyone can take Virginia's driver improvement clinic online except two groups Virginia names outright, drivers under 20 and CDL holders, who are required to attend the classroom version, with commercial drivers taking the CMV-specific course.
For everyone else, a DMV-approved online clinic is a full equivalent. It satisfies court-ordered attendance where a court sent you, DMV-ordered attendance when point accumulation triggered it, and voluntary attendance for the safe driving points or the insurance discount, with the same rules riding along regardless of format: the fee can't exceed $100 by law, the voluntary benefit runs once every 24 months, and you still choose points or discount at enrollment, never both.
If you're in one of the two excluded groups, don't fight it with a workaround; the DMV tracks enrollment type, and an online certificate from an excluded driver doesn't satisfy the requirement. Classroom clinics are widespread and the obligation is the same 8 hours either way.
Every DMV-approved online clinic we track is compared on the Virginia page, the enrollment codes are decoded on our points page, and pricing is on our cost page.
